Competition Rules

  1. The competition will be conducted under RSOBHD rules governing Closed Championships.

  2. All dancers must show a current RSOBHD Registration card. Paper or digital copies cannot be accepted.

  3. The Northwest Region Closed Championship/competition is considered by the RSOBHD to be a preliminary heat tothe USIR Championship. If there are age groups with fewer than six dancers, championship rules will still apply. In classes with three or fewer dancers, in order to qualify to compete in the USIR Championship, a dancer must gain aggregate points in the Regional Selection Competition. (ScotDance USA’s Policies & Procedures, Article V Section A #6).

  4. Age groups are set by ScotDance USA and may not be altered: 7 & Under 10, 10 & U12, 12 & U14, 14 & U16, 16 & U18, 18 & U22, 22 & Over.

  5. A dancer’s age for the NW Region Closed Championship will be as of July 15, 2025.

  6. In order to enter the NW Region Closed Championship a dancer must have been born in the region, lived in the region for a period of six (6) months immediately prior to the championship or temporarily reside in the region for a period of morethan six (6) months in a calendar year because they are attending an educational institution in the region or for another legitimate reason. (ScotDance USA’s Policies & Procedures Article V Section C #2).

  7. 2025 RSOBHD Championship Steps are required for the Highland Fling, Sword (2&2), Seann Truibhas, & Strathspey and Highland Reel

  8. Dancers will fill in for Reels if requested.

  9. Dancers entering the Northwest Region Closed Championship must be prepared to represent the Northwest Region at the 2025 U.S. Inter-Regional Championship (USIR) in Santa Clara, California on Saturday, July 12, 2025 https://nationalchampionship.scotdanceusa.com/

  10. Any dancer who qualifies to represent the NW Region but is unable to attend the USIR must notify the NW Regional Delegate before June 1, 2025.

  11. If a dancer who qualifies to represent the NW Region becomes ill or injured after June 1, contact the NW Regional Delegate immediately.

  12. Any dancer causing a delay may forfeit his/her entry in the event.

  13. Any attempt by competitors or parents to approach a judge or dance piper may result in the disqualification of the competitor.

  14. Awards for all age groups and USIR finalists’ photos will follow the championship.

  15. Dancers will remain in costume for awards and photographs.

  16. Protests must be made in writing and submitted with a fee of $25.00 to the NW Regional Delegate no later than 30 minutes after the championship results have been announced.

  17. All dance competitors, teachers, and parents are expected to comply with the ScotDance USA Code of Ethics.

  18. Video recording of any dancer/s other than your own dancer/s is strictly prohibited. Please be respectful of the personal privacy of others and do not video record or post to social media platforms without dancer’s and/or parent’s consent.

  • Note: A dancer who wins a perpetual trophy at the U.S. Inter-Regional Championship (USIR) is responsible for the safe transport, storage and cleaning of the trophy.

  • If the dancer is unable to attend the following year’s USIR for any reason, it is the dancer’s responsibility to safely ship and return the trophy to the required destination before that year’s event so it may be awarded to the next recipient.

General Information

  1. The building will open at 9:00 AM

  2. Dancer Check-in will open at 9:15 AM. Dancing will begin at 10:00AM

  3. The Highland Fling will be danced first from the youngest to oldest age groups followed by the Sword and SeannTriubhas. The Reels may be danced out of age group order if necessary to accommodate fill-ins.

  4. First to enter will be the last to dance in age groups with fewer than 16 dancers entered.

  5. In any age group with 16 or more dancers entered, the order of dance for the Highland Fling, Sword and Seann Triubhas will be determined by a separate draw for each dance.

  6. "First to enter last to dance” will apply only for the Reel.

  7. If a draw is necessary, it will be conducted by the NW Region of ScotDance USA.

  8. Draw positions will be emailed to dancers and teachers no later than Saturday, May 10, 2025.

  9. After May 10, 2025 should a competitor withdraw from an age group the order of dance was determined by a draw, dancers in the affected class will move up one spot in the order of the dance. Teachers of competitors whose order of dance haschanged will be emailed a revised order of dance and will be asked to relay the information.

  10. Competitors’ numbers will be available at Dancer Check-In.

  11. Spectator Admission fee is $10.00  We encourage purchase of admission tickets online.

  12. All day volunteers and children under 5 are free.

  13. Parking is available in the lot behind the church, in the TriMet parking lot two short blocks south of the church on Laurelwood St. or on the street.
